New Animals in War pin features a cat

A new Animals in War pin has been unveiled this year featuring an animal that quietly served alongside war veterans, playing its own unique role in wartime. We’re talking about cats! Our feline friends served as companions during wartime and kept ships free of vermin.

These pins are a reminder of all the animals who have served, and continue to serve, alongside Canada’s veterans. The Animals in War pin is intended to be worn as a complement to the poppy in remembrance of our veterans and the animals who bravely served by their side.

Funds from the sale of the pin help provide care for animals in need, and $1 from each pin sold is donated to Royal Canadian Legion branches across Ontario to support our veterans.

The first Animals in War pin was launched in 2017 and the collection includes a horse, a dog, a limited edition pin in honour of the women who have served in Canada’s military, a pigeon and new in 2021, a cat. Interested in a past pin? You can still order them on

This Remembrance Day, join us as we honour and remember the animals who served in wartime. Mules carried artillery, horses transported troops and hauled field guns, pigeons delivered crucial messages, cats served as companions and kept ships free of vermin, and dogs have served as messengers, medical assistants, bomb detectors and search and rescue workers.
